Badminton

Badminton is played either by two players which play on each side of the badminton net or by four players which play in the form of pairs with each pair on each side of the badminton court. As mentioned earlier, badminton is played with a racquet and a shuttlecock and this is where the badminton logo comes from. The Badminton logo contains a racquet and a shuttlecock. Now that we have known the apparatus of the sport, we need to know that how to play badminton. There are certain complex rules but we can describe badminton easily by saying that the players position themselves on the both sides of the badminton court and the shuttle is required to be hit by each side only once and sent to the other side of the court over the net. This process continues until the shuttle falls on the ground on one side of the court and the rally ends. A point is awarded to the team opposite to where the shuttle is dropped. Badminton scoring is more like any court game played with the racket like table tennis, tennis or squash. Point is awarded to the side from where service is done and if the shuttle drops on the opposite side of the net and within the court lines and if the shuttle drops on the server’s side, the service is diverted to the other side and this continues.

History of Badminton is quite interesting. Badminton is not any modern game; though invention of badminton is unknown but its roots travel back in history to the ancient Greece and Egypt. In the eighteenth century, it was played in India. At that time India was ruled by the British and the game was called Poona. The game was taken to Britain by the British Army soldiers. The soldiers introduced the game to their friends and it gradually gained popularity among the British. After a while some associations came in to being and the rules of the game were standardized. This is the badminton history and this is how it still prevails as a modern sport and stays as a top level event in the Olympics.

There are certain badminton techniques that can give a player an edge in his game of badminton like the way he serves or where he places his smash in the opponent’s court.

Badminton is not simply the game of physical strength, it’s actually a strategy based sport in which you have to observe the opponent and attack his weaknesses. Badminton is an extremely healthy sport which keeps one healthy in very little time.
